One day there will be good news to post on this substack, but today isn’t that day. The results from my Brain MRI came in, and as suspected by my doctor, it does indeed show a tumor. Somehow I have a golfball sized tumor in my skull and haven’t noticed it. I guess that either shows how amazingly flexible the human body is, or maybe I have less going on up there then I imagined…
I’ll be honest, when I get news like this it definitely flips me from the “I can beat this” side of the dial to the “I’m going to die” side of the dial, but after a day to think it over, for whatever reason (maybe blame the brain tumor) the words of DMX come to mind:
One more road to cross
One more risk to take
Gotta live my life
Like there's one more move to make
While it would have been great to get some good news, I see this as just one more challenge to fight on the path to recovery. I’m very grateful and amazed that we live in a time that this can be treated at all.
It sounds like due to the size, the preferred solution for this tumor will be brain surgery, which certainly wasn’t on my radar of things to expect this year. I’ve started taking anti-seizure meds (and luckily haven’t experienced any). And tentatively the plan is to have this surgery next week but meeting with neurosurgeon on Monday to discuss
If there’s a silver lining, it seems to be the “good kind” of brain tumor where it’s growing on the outside of the brain itself and can be cut out, versus the kind of tumors that start in the brain and spread throughout it (and are inoperable).
Also at least it is a first affirmative step to fighting the cancer, in a way it feels good to finally be taking some action.
It’s a big challenge ahead but as they say - how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

One day at a time. Sending hugs and prayers your way. 🙏❤️
We are sending love and healing to you and Kelly. ❤️🩹
